Saint Richard Reynolds of Syon Abbey
St Ethelreda's Catholic Church, London.
Saint Richard Reynolds, Brigettine martyr of England and one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. He was born in Devon, England, in 1492 and was educated at Cambridge. In 1513, he entered the Brigettines at Syon Abbey, Isleworth. When King Henry VIII demanded royal oaths, Richard and others opposed the monarch. They were executed at Tyburn. Richard was canonized in 1970.
The palm signifies his martyrdom and the rope presumably indicates that he was hanged.
In memory of Reynolds
Reynolds died today and it was a senseless death. He was picked up by Central Texas Dachshund Rescue from a shelter and was heartworm positive. Today the vet found him vomiting blood and near death and he did not make it. Heartworm prevention is CHEAP and would have prevented his painful death. He was only a YEAR OLD!!
